Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. She founded Feminist Frequency the site with videos and guest posts analyzing the portrayals of females in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic that has received accolades for her work. She is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource to educate women about their positions in the pop culture narratives, is her brainchild. She also serves as the executive director. Aiming to break down the stereotypes associated with women in pop culture she also is a vocal advocate for issues relating to the targeted harassment of women as well as other classes of the Internet space. A graduate in social and political thought from York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after speaking engagement and has given speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival as well as the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Passionate about issues of gender identities and feminisms from an early age she launched her website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while studying at the university. She had a plan to start an internet-based program that would examine gender representation in games, and was then the victim of an online harassment campaign. This attack was not enough to halt her. In fact, it increased her importance as a feminist and media critique. The award-winning journalist has received numerous accolades to recognize her prominent contributions to the field of feminism.
